Internet is a public, cooperative, and independent network. Nowadays, people can find almost everything on the Internet. Internet was functional in September 1969.
- ARPA: Pentagon’s Advanced Research Project Agency
- ARPANET: Networking project by ARPA
Growth of the Internet:
- 1969: 4 host nodes
- 1984: more than 1000 host nodes
- Today: more than 500 millions host nodes
Two ways to connect to the Internet:
- Slow-speed technology: Dial-up access
o Dial-up access: modem in your computer uses a standard telephone line to connect to the Internet
- High-speed connection: DSL, cable modem, FTTP, fixed wireless, wireless modem, Wi-Fi, and satellite modems
o DSL: Digital Subcriber Line, which uses a sophisticated process to pack data onto copper wires
o Cable modem: device that allow a computer to transmit and receive data over certain types of transmission lines
o Wi-fi: wireless fidelity (wireless network)
Ways to access the Internet:
- ISP: Internet Service Provider
- OSP: Online Service Provider
- WISP: Wireless Internet Service Provider
Data travels over the Internet:
- Step 1: Request from your computer
- Step 2: A Cable modem transfers the computer’s digital signals to the cable television line in your house
- Step 3: Transferred to a central cable system
- Step 4: Transferred to a cable operator (ISP)
- Step 5: Through the Internet backbone to the destination server
- Step 6: The server re trieves the data and send it back to your computer
- Domain name: Text version of Internet protocol
- IP address: Number that uniquely identifies each computer or device connected to Internet
- World Wide Web (WWW): A worldwide collection of electronic documents
o Web page: Each electronic document. Can contain text, graphics, audio, video, and built-in connections
o Web site: a collection of related Web pages
- Web browser: Program that allows you to view Web pages
o Home page: The first page that a Web site displays

The Night At School.

“Antasnia, it is dinner time, go downstairs honey.”
“Mommy, did you see my Language Art notebook?” asked Antasnia. “I will have a Lit test tomorrow, I cannot study for the test without It.” worried Antasnia.
“Hum, how can we solve it now?”
Wears shoes on, before leaving, Antasnia says: “I will come to school to take it from my locker. I will come back home before 7:00pm mommy!”
“Okay honey. I’ll waiting for you.”
It is already 6 pm evening, but the sky still bright with a dark blue mixes purple and orange. It makes Antasnia feel a little bit uncomfortable. The wind blows heavy. It blows dust up, and makes leaf whisper.
“Excuse me, who are you looking for? Are you an AIS student?” asked by a new security man.
“Uh, yes, I am. Can I go inside to my locker to take my note book? Just for some minutes, okay?” smiled Antasnia.
“Okay girl, get in.” answered the security man.
`Walking for a little bit, Antasnia suddenly turns back and asks: “Excuse me, what time will the school closed?” But that security man disappears. He isn’t there anymore. Antasnia is a little bit confused, but then she continue walk up the stairs.
Each stair, there is only one more light, because other ones have been turned off. Everybody comes home. There is only silence at school. She walks to the first floor and suddenly she hears that there is a strong wind closes the window in room 101 heavily. She looks inside the room, just because of unconditioned reflex. However, the things she saw are locked windows. She is more confusing, after standing there for a moment; she continues walking up the stairs, to 5th floor-where her locker is.
“Thank you. Nice to meet you again. Is there anyone except you here?” She gets out of the room and takes some water.
“You.” When she turns to the security man, he disappears, again.
“Where is he? Okay, whatever, It’s late now, I should be hurry.” she thinks and continues to walk up to 4th floor.
In one room on 4th floor, she sees someone is still studying inside. She opens the door and sees a strange face. That person smiles to her and gets back to the computer.
“Hello. Am I disturbing you?” asked Antasnia.
That person nods his head.
“You look strange. Maybe you are a new student. Welcome to AIS. Do you think this time is too late to study at school?”
That person nods his head again and also with a smile.
“Okay. Maybe we can go home together. But wait for me a few minutes; I must go up to 5th floor to get my notebook. Sit here and wait for me, okay? See you later.”
That person nods his head again.
Antasnia opens the door, but she seems like forget something. “Hey, what’s your name?” she asked but nobody answers. She turns back but that person doesn’t nod head anymore. Because, that person isn’t there anymore, he disappears.
“Hey? Hey? Where are you? Don’t try to hide me.” asked Antasnia.
But there is no answer, everything still quite. She opens the door and walks out with bunch of questions inside her head. She feels really confuse, and also scared.
She walks up to 5th floor slowly. She finds her locker and opens it. After taking the notebook, she walks along the hallway. Suddenly she hears the sound of people talking. She goes toward where the sound comes from. She sees a group of people; about 3-4 people are talking inside the room. The light of the moon shines into the room. Behind that group of people, there is a wall. However, there is no shadow of those people who are talking. They aren’t human?!
Run. Run. She runs as fast a she can. She is totally scared and cannot believe all things she saw. All of them aren’t real?!
Run back to first floor, because of something, she falls down the ground. She stands up, and in front of her is the Computer room of Mr. Jonathan. She is transfixed. The entire computers are facing out to the door, and they are also turned on. She hears the sound of typing, but no one is inside. All of computers’ screens are doing the same action: log in to her AIS mail account.
She is in the highest point of fear. She is crying and begging. She hears the sound of someone walking to her, closer and closer. That person stands behind her and says: “Come here. Come here. Come to me. Come to me…” She turns her head back and…
